Dil Maya Tamang

Caste: Tamang caste, which is one of the largest groups in the country. Apparently their ancestors were horsemen and cavalry coming from Tibet. The name Tamang comes from the Tibetan words “ta” and “mang”, meaning horse and warrior.

Status : 20 years old, single

Hobby : In her free time she enjoys to go out of town with her friends on the scooter (or “scooti” as they call it here) to Bodhnath or other nice places around Kathmandu

Education : She went to school till she was 14 and after helping her parents farming their fields and the buffalos for a year, she then came to Kathmandu in search of a training and work

Career : After following a tailoring training in Kathmandu, she worked in a small company making Nepali kurtas where she gathered 3 years work experience. Now she works for JUX as a stitcher since 3months.

Background: Dil Maya grew up in Nuwakot, north of Kathmandu. It used to be on the main route for trade with Tibet. Surrounded by nine forts, the name Nuwakot is believed to be derived from Nawakotta, literally meaning nine forts.

Favorite clothing: She mostly likes to wear t-shirts and pants, but for her marriage she will definitely wear a sari. But she is enjoying an independent life at the moment and does not plan to marry too soon
