A big favorite of our sales director Ivar. As he puts it: ‘Finally a nice place to have dinner in Amsterdam Oost!’ The name of the restaurant literally means wild pigs, a remnant of the nicknames of the three founders of Wilde Zwijnen. Good meat, fish ánd vegetarian options, open for lunch and dinner.

Bolenius

Located near the Zuid-As, the business area in Amsterdam. Their ‘New Amsterdam’ cuisine is innovative, with respect for tradition and nature. You won’t find poetic descriptions on the menu, but you will find a list of very special ingredients which are combined into tasty dishes. For vegetarians they compose special menu’s with vegetables from their own kitchen garden.

This shop is founded by the Dutch tv host Floortje Dessing, well-known for her travel programs. During her travels she is regularly confronted with poverty and injustice. Therefore she opened a shop filled with fair fashion, so the workers of our clothing can make a living.

Gyatri moved from a village in Chitwan, where she was raised, to Kathmandu and hopes her younger sister will soon join her to study as well. For now, she shares a house with good friends from Europe.

Back in Chitwan, Gyatri’s mother and father are both farmers. Her uncle runs a successful tourist service business with five elephants, who come in handy for safari rides or a refreshing bath in the rivers. One of her uncles – Dhruba, who is co-owner of the truly beautiful Sapana Lodge – has been supporting Gyatri for years and helped her becoming the successful business woman she is now.

What makes her extra special, is that Nepal isn’t really emancipated yet, when it comes to both age and gender. But for Gyatri, that doesn’t seem to matter. At studio JUX, we’re super proud to work with such a gifted lady!

She’ll soon come to the Netherlands to actually see JUX garments hanging in stores.

In our factory in Nepal, we do not only have very experienced people, but also starters.
One of our starters is Alisha Limbu, she is 20years old and she started working in our Nepalese factory last year in August. 

She started working in the fashion industry because she had an interest in stitching and she wanted to grow and get more knowledge in a nice environment, so she chose for our factory to do so. Another reason for starting to work was that she wanted to help her family and have her own salary.

The way we got to know her, is as a very shy girl, which you can fully trust. She is a Christian and takes leave time to practice her religion. Her English is exceptionally good for a girl her age. But because she is so shy, it is sometimes difficult for her to open up towards us. However, Phillip is working  on this skill. :)

Alisha is from Illam- a region near Jhapa, so she decided to come to Kathmandu-the capital of Nepal to find better opportunities and reach higher goals in her life. For the moment she is studying Commerce Management, next to her job at JUX. Of course she has flexible work times so that she can attend to all her classes.

She likes Nepali POP music, singing and being around friends.

Her first “challenge” at JUX was to create 750 ribbons so she learns how to stitch. Master Raju # 1 in the handshake number system (you can find this on our website) is in charge with Alisha’s training. The ribbons have been done, 100% from left-over JUX fabrics. In this way Alisha learns to stitch, and fabrics get recycled and find a new life.

So…if you have been to the Green Fashion Competition, and received a goodie bag- then you also received the ribbon from Alisha. :)

Because we wanted to make her last day special, we made her the star of the day, so here a short interview with her.

What do you study? Where?
Fashion and Branding at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute.

What is your favorite book?
“Een schitterend gebrek” from Arthur Japin. It provokes your imagination.

What clothing piece is on your wishlist?
The black jumpsuit from JUX, but it’s for winter 2013, so I have to wait for a while.

What makes you happy?
Sunshine, music, being creative, good food and honest people.

What did you do at Studio Jux?
I made a brandbook and helped out with graphic design and marketing. It is a small growing company, so I had to do a lot of different things. Caring boxes and counting stock is also part of the deal.

Why did you choose for Studio JUX as an internship place?
I really do like fashion, but I don’t like the fashion world. I think it is to superficial, sometimes. It’s all about looking nice and being seen. So I searched for a company that is in fashion, but also is good for the world. During this internship I had the feeling of doing good not only for myself, but also for the world.

What did you like at Studio JUX and what did you not like that much here?

I really liked that I was part of everything that was going on in the company. We work really close to each other, there is a lot of interaction. I could hear what was happening around me, and this is why I could learn a lot about how things work in business. We work all in one space, so it was quite hectic some days. I have a little problem with my concentration, so I was easily distracted. I like hectic more than regularity, so I’m glad that I managed to work in a surrounding like this. What I’m definitely not going to miss are the extreme cold toilets :)). There’s no heater on the hallway or on the toilet, because our office is in an old school building. (Going to the toilet wasn’t really a treat.

How do you feel now that you leave and it is your last day?
It’s not my last day. Maybe my official last day of the internship, but I will return here to help and do stuff. I’m not good in saying goodbye, so we celebrate that I was in the office very often and now I’m only going to be here less often.

What are you going to do after you finish this internship?
I have to finish my school, before summer I hope, we will see.

Where are we going to find you in 5years?
Somewhere on this planet? No, I’m not really a planner. I hope that I will have my own company one day, but I don’t know if that is reachable in 5 years. I think a will first work for several companies to gather the needed experience. After my graduation at AMFI I will first do a Master study in Sociology, because I’m very interested in trends and the way people act and influence each other. It is a big part of branding, so it is for me a logical step forward. I’m 21 years old and I have a long working life ahead waiting for me.

     PS: yes she is wearing JUX items ;)
